A Fairy Is Born…

October 2nd, 2006

Or bribed. DD was not happy about me interupting her Sesame Street to have this put on. I had to give in and promise a sucker to her. I had completed this outfit last week, but just today uploaded the photos to photobucket. I love, no wait, adore this costume. So pretty. The pictures do not do it justice.

Here’s the front, or almost side. I used bridal satin for the overcoat and under dress.

And the back now. BTW, I didn’t make the wings. Too much trouble in my book.

Here’s the outfit without the wings in the way.

This costume was fairly easy to create. I didn’t find sewing the satin difficult. I love the trim at the bottom of the overcoat.

I don’t know why but lately things here are a bit off. You ever have times like that? Seems like you can’t get anything done and it’s so frustrating since you work all day. I am a SAHM, so I rarely sit down. And even when working all day it still looks terrible in my house. Oh and the laundry. How is there so much of it? I think it mates at night.

In exciting news… I am finally going to have a sewing area. It’s not ready for the pictures yet. But it’s coming along. Dh and I have decided that while I would like to have a sewing room in the basement, it’s not possible at this time. Our basement is unfinished and there are no plugs or lights (well there are, but not enough). So I am moving all my sewing and craft stuff up to our den. It’s a 10.5′ x 10.5′ room. I can’t wait.

Jeans – Almost

September 1st, 2006

The jeans have been finished (almost) for a few days now.  They are completely sewn up, but I have yet to give them the worn out look.  I have done a few tests with fabric paint, but I think I’m going to try some sandpaper.

Front

I love all the topstitching.  It’s not red like it looks in the picture, but more of tan-ish color.  I didn’t sew on the belt loops as the pattern called for.  I figure I can add those later if I wish.

Fly

I did add the fake front fly.  And if I were to do it again, I would do it differently.  I just stitched the general shape of a fly.  I think actually putting in a fake fly is much better.  Oh well, at least I learned something.

Back

In other news, fall has or is arriving here in the midwest.  All the gardens are being harvested, the weather is cooling and school has started.  I saw, what I’m sure, is my last veggie stand of the summer today.  :(   I am always saddened to see them go.  I look forward each year to the arrival of the stands, for it brings corn.  Not just any corn either, but the most delicious corn ever!  And now all the summery goodness is gone for this year.  And I must go back to frozen or canned.

Wrights

August 21st, 2006

I don’t know what you all think of this above photo.  But I think Wrights needs to update that little photo there.  I found it extremely funny that I went into the store to find some trim and this here photo was staring up at me.  It must be 20+ years old.  In fact I think I remember this photo being in my mom’s sewing supplies.  And let’s just say that she only used her supplies every few years.  Now I should also say that I found their product to be excellent.  There are no flaws there, but come on… update your packaging.

Broken Camera

August 15th, 2006

I have been trying to post for almost a week now. And the frustration is starting to hit. See we have this old camera. Ever since we first got it it’s had problems. Usually the batteries are always dead (the camera drains them in less then a day). But now the thing is taking on new quirks. Like dying whenever I push the take a picture button or quiting responding mid picture taking. So here you are… a picture from a few weeks ago.

BOM

BOM
Another BOM photo. Sorry about the wrinkles. I didn’t press it when I got it out of the container for this photo.

Little Toes

July 27th, 2006

Those little toes.  Perfect, huh?  Well, I think so anyway.  How funny they do something so simple, yet it just strikes you in such a way.  She is still small, but growing so much.  And such a girl, well sometimes anyway.

I have started my little ms trouble tank.  I really like the colors together.  I think I am doing the color change correctly, if not, then it’s good enough anyway.  (I don’t think the knitting police will be  sent anyway)

I have been listening to Lime & Violet’s podcast. They make me want to try to find a local SnB.  I know a new knitting guild was created just 2 months ago.  And they meet again soon.  I might check them out.
