Maybe Just A Lime
Well, I’m okay after all. I am finally mostly healthy. I don’t feel as tired, but I did get to sleep in yesterday. That was what I told DH I wanted for Mother’s Day. Just a little sleep in.
I started on DS’ sock. I was sure rusty on the knitting stuff. I looked at knittinghelp.com many times. I am very thankful for that site. It was extremely helpful to have examples both far away and also close up. I still had a bit of a problem figuring out the DPN’s, but I would say the tension and knit stitch were more trouble some. I think I was making it more complex then it really was.
This is my sock yarn and my cast-on stitches. I have since made more progress. I found working with the DPN wasn’t too bad. I am at the point now where I would need to start the ribbing. I don’t think my sister got it, for when I showed her the yarn, she had unpleasant things to say. She is not into any crafts, so I doubt she understands.
Here’s DS PJ’s. The spiderman fabric is what he picked out. He was thrilled I had started them. I hope he is still excited by the time I finish them. The care bear fabric is for DD. I don’t think she even has a clue! DS wants the view D, which is the boy all the way to the right. Long sleeves and pants, but it’s what he wants.
I still have to cut out the pants. I ran out of time. I don’t have a real sewing area yet. I have a place in the basement which will someday be a sewing area. But for now all it is, is one plug and one overhead lightbulb. I have no extra outlets or lighting. So the space is unusable for now. If anyone would have ideas for this space, I’d love to hear them. Just keep in mind, I’m on a budget.

My oldest ds and I went to our LYS yesterday, String Of Purls. I had never been there before and I must say it was wonderful. The place was organized and set up beautifully. The sales staff was very helpful. I am very glad I will be taking a class there in a few weeks.
We went there to pick out some yarn for my DH’s birthday. I have decided to make him a hat. I crocheted him one a few years ago based off one his friend owned. I think it turned out well. He still wears it to this day! Yeah! So I thought maybe he like a new one. I am going to try a pattern I found on knitty.com, this one acutally -> Tychus I bought a dark blue and a cream color for it. I also got some Latern Moon needles! I am so excited to use them. But DH doesn’t want to know what he is getting, although he must know it’s a hat. But he says he wants a suprise. So I guess I’ll have to do it when he’s at work and make him shut his eyes for the fittings.
The only progess I’ve made on the PJs is cutting out some of the pattern. It is going slow. I have not had time to work on it, especially since I was sick this week.
Better go and get back to my never-ending laundry.

I did it, I ordered some yarn. Since I have 3 small children I ordered from KnitPicks online. I really liked and my oldest DS agreed, some of their self-striping sock yarn. I had ds pick one and he liked the Simple Stripes Crayon and I also got Snapdragon for my DD. I then, of course, needed some needles. I have wanted to try something wooden and have heard good things about bamboo. So I also ordered those. I found a pattern that seems simple enough for me. It’s for child’s socks. I showed them to DS and he seemed pleased with that. So away we go. I’m so excited.
I also started my DS’ pajamas. They sure have alot more parts then DD’s dress. I should have known, but really I just didn’t pay attention. Still in the copying phase of it. I like to copy my original patterns to plain newsprint so the original is kept intact. Does everyone do this? I really don’t know. So I’m about 50% done with that. I’m also making DD a pair of the PJ’s at the same time.

We got our very old and very disfunctionable camera out. DH tried to repair it for me. It’s one of these camera that eats batteries. I was letting my oldest DS use it for fun, but since my mom took the camera I was using, I guess I’m back to the old junky one. DH took some pictures of DD in her dress. You’ll see that it’s way too big for her. She’s going to be 2 in June, but she is BIG girl. Kinda funny since my oldest DS is a skinny little guy. In fact they are only 5lbs away from one another, but 2 yrs in age! But again as you will see it’s huge. I made both a size 3, but did shorten the second dress I made. It however did not make much of a difference. I will have to put both in her closet for next year.
Here’s the first dress I made… It has the tiers and is very full. It looks to me to be very comfortable.
And here is the second dress. This is the one I shortened. It doesn’t even show. HA HA I added the “E”. I thought the plain yellow top was very bare without something.
I am making a third dress, this one is the opposite of dress #2. I am trying to come up with something I can add to the yellow fabric to make it more interesting. I do have an embroidery machine and will probally use that. Just need a design.
I will say that the first dress, even though made of the same fabric, is more interesting then the second.
Today while I was listening to a knitting podcast I decided I am not going to wait a month for my beginning knitting class to start a project. This is probally not a smart thing to do, since let’s face it, I am Queen of UFO’s (Unfinished Objects). I think I must have at least 5 quilts, 1 knit blanket, 1 crochet blanket and various other things about. I am too excited to wait one whole long month for my class. I’m going to go and get the things I need to start something. I was thinking of socks, or maybe something for DD. HUM….. Have to wait and see…

This is my first attempt at blogging. I got interested after I started listening to podcasts! Those things rock! From there I started reading blogs. I found that I really like them and was sorta of entertaining the idea of trying one myself. I told my husband this and he (at least I think) thought it was a good idea. He and I started trying to come up with a good name. I love those little smart titles. With his help we came up with SewMuch. My original one was Sew Little Time, but it was taken.
I am very enthusiastic about my crafting. I currently am making a dress, a summer one, for my DD (dear daughter). It’s McCalls Pattern 4814. I just started my venture into apparel. And I LOVE it!!! I have made this dress already once for her, but it was very large. Last night I completed my second dress. I believe this one might be a little large also. I made it a size 3, but wow are those sizes huge! I had read on PatternReview.com several reviews on this pattern that did state it was large. I really love PatternReview. It’s a wonderful source on many things. But I find the pattern reviews a real time saver. Also I think I will look at serger reviews when I get one.
My next project is a pair of PJ’s for my DS (dear son). He is so excited about them. He went with me and picked out the pattern and spider man material. He loves to show everyone who comes over his PJ’s. His excitement is so great, it gets me excited about it.
I’m sure you’ll hear more about my clothing attempts as I really do enjoy making them. I’m also very excited to take a beginning knitting class in June. Sadly I was not taught by my mother or grandmother, I learned what I know from books mostly. I think it might be good to have a real live person show me how to do it correctly. But alas I have to wait until June!
Hopefully I will get a digital camera soon so I can have photos of my “creations”.
