Madaline Jane » Frugal Living http://www.madalinejane.com/blog Pursuing Perfection Sat, 16 Jan 2010 03:43:25 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.1 en hourly 1 Laundry Detergent http://www.madalinejane.com/blog/archives/166 http://www.madalinejane.com/blog/archives/166#comments Thu, 07 Jan 2010 15:00:09 +0000 Jennifer http://www.madalinejane.com/blog/?p=166 Back in December I found this wonderful post by Samantha of The Handmade Dress.  I have been looking to try homemade detergent for a while now and this just spurred me on.  I went out and purchased all the supplies.   A few days later I was shredding soap and adding the borax.  I used the Fels-Napha bar for my first time making the detergent.  While I will say in the beginning I did not care for the scent of it, it has grown on me.  I do add a few drops of essential oils to the load to make it smell pretty.  And so far, so good.  The clothes coming out are nice and clean.  Though next time I will try using Ivory soap.

Next is to make dish detergent (that is what the baking soda is for).  It looks as easy as the laundry soap and I hope it preforms as well.
