Zipper Romper & Infant Round Neck Dress

May 7th, 2008

Here is a romper I just finished. I love this. I think all rompers should have zips. :) Or maybe I’m just too lazy for snaps. lol

Zipper Romper

Here’s a round neck top that I sized down. I can’t decide if I should sell it like I had intended or keep it for DD. I am having this conflict since Ellison has one almost exactly like it

Whoo wants some summer sun?

April 22nd, 2008

I made this sweet little top for my Ellison. She loves it even though it is not even close to warm enough to wear it yet. Maybe in the next few weeks. Ah to live in the midwest, freezing one minute and boiling the next.

TFL!

Hair Clippies

April 18th, 2008

I saw a post somewhere where the blog author made her daughter some cute little ribbon and clip hair accessories. I loved the look of the simplicity of them and how easy they looked to craft. So I bought some double alligator clips from Everyday Clippies on Etsy. They arrived and I went immediately to the store to get some cute ribbon. I got four spools. A white and black one for Evie’s baptism. A plain pink. A cute pink & green Euro looking one. And another pink & green circles one (see a theme :) ). Initially I wanted something for my daughter’s baptism and while I think I’ll use the white/black one at least for the photos, the alligator clips do not stay in her very short hair.

Testing Testing Testing

April 16th, 2008

I got the wonderful opportunity to test a pattern for That*Darn*Kat.   It’s a great rounded top pattern.  She is aiming to release the pattern some time next week.  It was quick and simple.  Just perfect.  I’ll be offering one of these cute tops at my HC Shoppe at the end of this month.

Some Things I Have Learned

March 27th, 2008

So after a nice round of broken machines, I *think* everything is fixed now. I have learned ALOT during this last week regarding care and maintenance of machines.

So, here is everything I learned the expensive, oh did I say that, I meant HARD way!

* Use the same needles in your serger. Don’t mix brands! Even if you happen to own or were gifted other brand needles, do not put them into your machine. (dang singer and organ mix)

* Change your needles every 8hrs. Every 8 no matter what!

* Even if your machine manual says to use a certain needle check with either your shop or here SM to see what to use.

If you fail to do these things you will end up spending alot of money fixing your timing and you’ll nick up your loopers, yes both of them.

Next, (didn’t I say I learned alot)…

* Industrial machines are NOT home machines.

* Get a magnifying glass to work on them.

* If you get your husband to help you “repair” your machine, be prepared to have to assist (alot). lol

* Do not leave to go to, say, a grocery store, or you might return to find your machine was taken apart more then needed (why do men do that?) and now it doesn’t make anything resembling a stitch.
(really though he did a good job, I think it might even be fixed now)

* When trying to fix skipped stitches on a industrial, try all you would with a home machine, but then you’d better get a manual. Which is awesome, btw. You wouldn’t believe the information in there.

* Tiny adjustments make a HUGE difference. And there are lot of adjustments you can make.

Luckily, I didn’t have to do anything to my Bernina (knocks on wood) other then normal yearly service. I really felt like a dope when I hurt my serger. But then my c/s machine wasn’t working and I was just about feed up! I ruined a pair of shorts for DS trying to get the c/s fixed.

Oh and lastly, I learned that when your newborn starts to sleep though the night you feel so much better!!! I know she’s my fourth, but you really do forget.

(sorry for the lack of photos. But I have been wanting to blog for over a month now and just wanted photos, so no photos = new post. At least for now.)
